Every day, when someone is critically injured, London’s Air Ambulance Charity delivers complex medical care directly to the patient, responding to an average of six critically injured people daily. In 2024 alone, the service treated 2,058 patients. On the scene, their crew performs advanced procedures such as blood transfusions and open-chest surgeries—interventions that can mean the difference between life and death. London’s Air Ambulance’s advanced trauma team are the only people in London who can deliver these procedures on the roadside.


As a charity, London’s Air Ambulance relies heavily on public donations to maintain its life-saving operations. It requires £17 million a year to stay operational, with each mission costing an average of £2,600. Recently, members of the Appco UK team, including owners, business advisors and staff, participated in a 'Train the Trainer' session at The Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel. This session was designed to deepen the team’s understanding of the charity's operations and to better advocate its cause and needs to the public.

The day began with a review of presentation materials alongside clients, creating a collaborative environment for learning and discussion. Following the session, attendees were given an exclusive tour of the hospital’s helipad, overlooking the spectacular London skyline. The group also visited the air ambulance’s operations room, a critical hub where missions are tracked in real-time and pilots receive navigational support. This behind-the-scenes look highlighted the complexity and coordination required to deliver a rapid medical response anywhere across London.


Understanding each charity partner and their mission is essential

Experiences like these reinforce the vital role that London’s Air Ambulance Charity plays in emergency medical care and the importance of sustained public support. The charity recently improved its fleet by acquiring two new Airbus H135 helicopters, funded through the successful 'Up Against Time' appeal. The crew performs advanced interventions such as open chest surgery on average once a week and delivers blood transfusions approximately every 36 hours, ensuring the best possible outcomes for the patient.
