BLOG: Inside Appco UK: meet our very own creative genius!

She’s the woman responsible for all things ‘creative’ at Appco UK, from branding and event collateral to print design and website concepts, but Tamsin Bosch also has a dark side … No. Not really. But InsideAppco UK did find out there’s a lot more to her than great graphic design.

How would you sum up your role? To sum it up, I’m involved in anything visual we create here at Appco UK, either under our own brands, or for our clients. This includes physically designing things like brochures, posters, logos/brand identities, newsletters, etc and making sure that the right templates and guidelines are available to my colleagues.

What’s the best part of your job? I like how the industry and technology is always changing! New software, new trends, new tricks.

How do you get ready for a day at work? I’m a to-do list gal. I get my coffee/tea, go through e-mails and plan what I’d like to get done that day. I usually get through about 70 per cent, but urgent things come up.

What’s your go-to work-day lunch? I try to bring food in, but I like the Salad Man’s* selection or a co-op meal deal as a back-up plan. (*The man who tours the office building each day with his delicious, salad-y lunch offerings = Salad Man.)

What does the state of your desk say about you? Hopefully not much as it’s ALWAYS a mess. I like to think I’m more organised than my desk would lead people to believe…

How do you stay focussed in a busy office? I’m quite good at getting into my bubble, to the point where I sometimes get a fright when people approach my desk. I’m also a strong believer in doing something at lunch. If I get to the gym, or at least away from my desk, I’m more productive in the afternoon.

How do you switch off after work? The hour-and-a-half train ride back to south Croydon helps. But most evenings I have a run, or Pilates class. Failing (or in addition to) that, there’s always wine!

Who do you follow/who do you recommend we follow on social media? I find social media can get very annoying very quickly, so I’m more of a newsletter/blog/podcast person.

Time Out and Mr Hyde are my favourite newsletters. Design Ninja, which gives lessons on Adobe software, is my latest favourite YouTube channel.

And definitely check out the Elis James and John Robins podcast – a bit quirky at times, but I find them hilarious! Work-wise, I highly recommend Meetup.

What’s something about you that people would be surprised to learn? Probably not much! I’m a bit of an open book (code for blabbermouth, some might say). But most people are surprised to hear I never learnt to ride a bike.

What’s the most daring thing you’ve done? Probably moving from Cape Town to London. I’d been employed since I was 16 and never spent more than a month away from my family, so quitting my job and moving to a country I’d never been to felt pretty mad.

How are you using your annual leave this year? It’s always used for travelling, but I’m not sure what exactly the next year holds. So far this year has been South Africa and a trip to New York/Niagara Falls/Toronto, and weekend trips to Lisbon, Luxembourg and Hamburg. I also have one coming up in Murcia.

If you had to be locked in a building overnight, which would it be and why? Maybe the Sistine Chapel or the Louvre. Basically, places I want all to myself.

Appco UK’s field marketing and fundraising services are based on people talking to people – and the people at Appco UK are a big part of making that happen. Our teams have a diverse range of skills, but we are all passionate about doing the best job possible for our clients.
